Whether it serves a villa, a factory or a treatment plant, a reinforced-concrete water tank has one job: to hold water without leaking or contaminating it. Repairs after a tank is in service are costly and disruptive, so it pays to check the right things during construction.
Before construction
- A structural design for water-retaining concrete that specifies the concrete grade, cover and crack-control details
- Soil and groundwater information for underground tanks
- A waterproofing system suited to drinking or treated water
- Safe access: manholes, ladders and ventilation
During construction
- Reinforcement and cover inspected before every pour
- Water stops at construction joints
- Proper curing of the concrete
- Waterproofing applied and inspected before backfilling
Before the tank is used
- A water-tightness (hydrostatic) test, witnessed and recorded
- Cleaning and disinfection before drinking-water use
- Labelled valves, overflow and drain connections
In service
Inspect and clean tanks at regular intervals, check for cracks, leaks and damaged coatings, and keep access covers secured. Our maintenance team can set up an inspection schedule for existing tanks.
